Visual Inspection Studio for fresh wind in robotics

Company
Aerones

Role
Lead Product Designer

Year
2023-2025

Industry
Robotics • Wind Energy • SaaS • Complex Systems

One of the biggest and most complex products I’ve worked on.

Visual Inspection Studio is a platform for viewing and managing wind turbine inspections. Users can explore turbines through 360° internal inspection footage or external drone inspections, track defects, compare damage over time, and manage repair workflows.

Before this, a lot of the process was manual. Operators had to go through footage manually, defects could be missed or mislabeled, and clients had very little transparency into turbine health and maintenance progress.

I worked on the product from early discovery through beta launch. My role included UX research, workshops, product strategy, prototyping, UI design, user flows, testing, and close collaboration with engineers and technical teams.

A huge part of the work was understanding both sides:

  • internal operators who needed faster and more reliable workflows

  • external clients who needed visibility, trust, and easier decision-making

We introduced clearer workflows, AI-assisted defect recognition, comparison tools, and a much more structured inspection experience overall.

The product became one of Aerones’ key software selling points, and even during internal rollout we saw operators complete tasks significantly faster with less manual work.

Because this platform is proprietary and under NDA, I can only publicly share limited information, but I’m happy to walk through the process and designs in more detail privately.

Leading Edge Repair Quality Control, so nothing is missed

Company
Aerones

Role
Lead Product Designer

Year
2025

This project focused on improving the quality control process for wind turbine blade repairs.

Previously, the QC process was heavily manual. Teams worked through spreadsheets, searched for images manually, compared repairs by hand, and spent a huge amount of time organizing data.

The goal was to streamline the entire workflow and build it directly into the inspection ecosystem we were already developing.

I worked closely with:

  • repair technicians

  • QC operators

  • technical teams

to fully understand how repairs were documented, reviewed, and approved.

From there, I designed workflows and prototypes that integrated QC processes directly into the existing comparison tools inside Visual Inspection Studio.

The result was a beta workflow that significantly reduced manual work and made quality control much faster and easier to manage.

The biggest improvement wasn’t just speed — it was traceability, consistency, and making the process sustainable long-term instead of relying on fragmented spreadsheets and manual searching.

Like other Aerones systems, this work is protected under NDA, so only limited details can be shared publicly.
